Well, I just finished reading a paper presented at the Cairo Islamic Congress. Actually, it was the only one that the Canadian Islamic Congress distributed so I didn't have much choice. The paper was called From Neofascist Apartheid Globilization to Fair and Equitable Globalization. A mouthful.
I thought the paper was wimpy. It was chocked full of contrasting and conflicting argument. It complained a lot but had virtually no solutions other than that the rich nations must voluntarily agree to be less rich.
Mohamed Elmasry, the author and a Canadian, just doesn't get it. If third-world countries wish to get out of apartheidic debt then they must simply band together and declare it absolved. The rich nations only have 20% of the world. Let the remaining 80% begin to take care of themselves and turn its back on the rich. As with any apartheid situation it is up to the suppressed to redefine oppression into power, or be enslaved forever. Hasn't anyone seen A Bug's Life?
This asking the rich for their science and their patents is silly. This asking permission to be debt free is is silly. Form your own 80% club and look to yourselves. I think you will find that the rich need you far, far more than you need the rich.
Thus spoke the Herbinator.
