Cornucopians or more rather, a rabid subset, the Horsemen of the Apocolypse, soldiers of the medico inquisition, have been snooping about recently.
These self-appointed protectors of the Truth preach "evidence-based medicine" to the masses in hopes of counteracting the rising acceptance of Alternative health and of squeezing more money out of cash-strapped health care systems.
They deliberately use eristic argument in their efforts to "prove" medico dogma. Ridicule is their weapon of choice as they berate all who challenge their self-assumed import -- even their own ilk should they presume a competing stature. When we liken their actions to that which befell Galileo, they deconstruct the analogy, seemingly to rationalize their behaviour.
The horsemen are an obnoxious clique of especially bigoted individuals. They take a perverse pleasure in attempting to ridicule those who use kinder, gentler health techniques instead of more caustic, and often feckless, drug & surgery methods.
A typical example.
Links to these inimical types can be found here.
The real truth of evidence-based medicine is that 85% is unproven, and that which is "proven" is highly suspect [bought and paid for studies, study "pickers", study parameters which guarantee no failures, study suppression]. There is real evidence that perhaps most deaths are actually caused by the medicos.
OK, back to work cataloging my clipping pile. What's this? Article says "world's most prescribed drug for Alzheimer's patients is neither beneficial nor cost effective." Just a gross waste of money, no better than a placebo. Hmmm, I wonder how it became the world's most prescribed drug ...
And where have I heard "no better than a placebo" before? Was it in relation to the world's most prescribed drug for depression? And cox-2 inhibitors, the newest and greatest and safest well-proven anti-inflammatories, all pulled from the market. And statins, recommended for wide usage at great monetary cost but only saving an estimated 1 life every five years in the lower range of recommended patients!
Methinks their slip is showing. One is forced to ask, "is there any objective reality in evidence-based medicine?" I suppose hypocrisy and bigotry are the necessary prerequisites in becoming a horseman.

Unfortunatly the majority of the general public doesnt do their research when being prescribed a medication. It's as if a doctor's word is as sacred as scripture. When my grandfather was diagnosed as terminally ill i flew 800 miles to care for him. When i arrived having done a little research on what was going on with him, i spoke with his doctor regarding some alternative therapies. They told me he was dieing and at this point it would be useless. 2 months of caring for him and we returned to the doctor for testing. The doctor was shocked and amazed, said i had performed a miracle. I told him i didnt do anything aside from take him off of the unnecessary medications and use some herbal alternatives. The difference was amazing. It was then that i learned that our medical professionals are not trained in anything to do with natural forms of medications. I didnt realize that, and am still appalled to know they arent taught any form of herbal healing. Why would we completely neglect what has been here from the beginning and works?!
I really like your blog, very informative and well written.
